Last December in Goa, while sitting on the beach at midnight, feeling the cold sand beneath my feet and feeling the cool breeze on my face – I was counting stars in the sky and revisiting my wish list and dreams.
The first time I penned down my dreams in my diary was on New Year’s Eve of 2016. At that time, I had resolved to stick to it. Since then, I update it every year. To update, I strike off the accomplished wishes and add new ones to the list.
Creating a wish list, taking the necessary steps to fulfil it, staying disciplined to remain focused and revisiting it to evaluate and seeing how far I have come – I find it all very useful.
When I look at my wish list and items that I have struck off – it seems magical how some of my dreams have transformed, and I am already living them. It gives me a great sense of achievement, even before the wish gets accomplished.
It also solidified my belief that “dreams do come true” and it is more than a fairy tale or a motivational quote for me.
If it motivates you to write your own dreams in your diary, now is the time.
December is the ideal month to kickstart our dreams by pausing, reflecting on the year when it is coming to a close and planning for the new year. Many of us make New Year Resolutions but only a few stick to them through the year. As early as January life takes over – we lose our focus towards our resolutions and they lose their charm. And the wish list remains a “wish come true list” on a piece of paper.
I want to let you in on a secret, that I have only accomplished a few of my listed dreams but it has been worth it.
Year by year, the failure of my New Year resolutions has made me figure out a method to stay focused on my dreams and goals throughout the year with zeal and enthusiasm. The process comprises of the following steps:
Step # 1 Cleanse the soul: December becomes our beacon of light, transporting us all into the potential of the coming New Year. Amidst the universal lessons and influences, the perpetual month of cheer and goodwill becomes magnified, both internally and externally. The last month of the year offers and invites our spiritual core to reflect on the previous months, releasing things, situations and people that have been stopping us from rising or serving the greater good. It is the time to let go of the hurtful experiences and surrender to the universe. By doing so, we create space for new things, people and experiences.
Cleansing is preparing the soul to learn from past experiences and align the energies with the universe. It provides the right mindset and attitude – positive thoughts and hopes – to not to attract similar situations and people in your life again.
This is the reason why people generally go on holidays or for a retreat in December. We can also do it at home by taking a small break from the routine life and spending some quality time with ourselves by – just – taking a morning walk in nature or observing a few minutes of silence in your room.
Step # 2 Practice Self Love: Only a heart full of love can have beautiful dreams and the will power to transform it into a reality. Self-Love plays a vital role in the Law of Attraction to manifest your dreams. The Law of Attraction is nothing, but it is about your thoughts, feelings, and action. Therefore, it is called the ‘Law of You’ and when you love yourself, things about yourself, you will prepare or influence your thoughts, feelings, and action in your way. You channelize all your energy in a focused way toward realizing your dreams.
We have developed this misconception that ‘Love’ means you have to love others, sacrifice yourself, your wishes, dreams for others, do care for others, do things for others, etc. But the truth is, if you do not love yourself first, you will not be able to do anything for your loved ones to the fullest. When you love yourself, you know what real love is, and you can love others the same way you love yourself. That will be the highest order of love. The highest order of love makes you vibrate at a higher frequency, making you happy, peaceful and content. Indeed! A happy and peaceful soul can focus more on goals and dreams.
Step # 3 Visualize your dream: Visualizing is a way to train and stretch the mind to make room for the manifestation of our deepest desires. Joseph Murphy, PhD, author of The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, says that whatever beliefs, thoughts, and opinions we impress on our subconscious mind -is made-manifest in our experiences. We are all a product of our thoughts.
Our thoughts and energies continually create the very life around us; learn how to become more deliberate and selective of your thoughts and emotions, and you can create your dream life into reality.
Visualization is powerful when done with feelings and emotions. Sit in the quiet corner of your home, close your eyes, and visualize yourself living your dreams with full emotions and intensity. When you do so, you create vibrations at a higher frequency that accelerates the Law of Attraction, and the universe responds to your wishes.
Step # 4 Plan your action: Having dreams in one’s eyes never stops anyone from thinking analytically. Planning gives you a roadmap to bring your wish list to the forefront of the dream zone. It is the last step before taking the real action for accomplishing your resolution or living your dream.
However, most people began their wish list from planning itself – missing the initial spiritual steps of cleansing, practicing self-love and visualizing. It is the primary reason for the failure of the New year resolutions or for not being able to live the items on your wish list. So, write a stepwise practical plan that will bring you closer to your dream.
Step # 5 Take action: It is the final step to create your reality. Give your best effort with honesty and discipline when New Year begins. This last step brings you so close to living your dream that you should not get affected if you encounter a few failures in the beginning to keep up your resolution. Do consider it as a surge before the Victory. Get up, gear up and practice again. Practice, Practice and Practice is the only divine way to succeed.
And, finally you will witness that your dream has come true.
Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.
Dreaming big, making a resolution, having a bucket list or penning down a wish list are acts of an evolved soul. Never let go of any thought or idea that comes to your mind that fuels up your soul with passion and gives it a chance to get liberated. Allow yourself to fly higher and dream bigger. Life is too short to live within boundaries.
